Lurking amidst the reefs the Shipwrecker Eel, as its name implies, is constantly accused of causing the misfortune of many ships that now are part of the reefs themselves. Though highly aggressive and known to attack trespassers, no conclusive evidence was ever provided that points them as the sole responsible for the sinkings. Studies have shown that they could indeed damage small boats and canoes, but more likely than not it were the sharp reefs in which they live that actually caused those vessels to sink. This however didn't stop people from blaming the eels which in turn led to many years of persecution and hunting. Now the Shipwrecker Eel is a rare sight living in only small pockets of reefs still untouched by human presence.
