Kappas used to be found all throughout Asia, now, due to over hunting and urban expansion, only a small population still survive in the most hidden and secluded lakes and rivers of Japan. Despite its similarities, Kappas are not related to turtles. In fact they don't even posses a real shell, having instead a thick flab of skin filled with small osteoderms resembling more a mixture between a crocodile and an armadillo. Kappas are omnivores that can reach heights up to 1,20 meters, approximately 3.9 feet, and are known to hunt anything smaller than themselves. Which has lead to the dismay of many who have left their small children unsupervised near the water throughout history.
