Walter, Last of its kind

A photo of Walter, the last leathery heron.
The leathery herons were a truly peculiar bred of bird endemic to a small island on the south pacific known as Mandu where they lived in peace with the local native tribe, the Mandurians. After first contact was made with the Mandurians by Sir Cedric, the adventurer, he quickly became infatuated whit this strange and exotic bird. He took an individual as a pet for himself and named it Walter and took it back home with him where he introduce it as the ugliest bred of bird to ever exist. After hearing about this the Mandurian king became enraged and ordered the total extermination of the leathery herons. Due to their docile and trusty behavior this flightless birds were wiped out very quickly, leaving Walter as the only survivor of the leathery heron genocide. Sir Cedric was prohibited from ever returning to the island of Mandu and Walter died years later in captivity on a local zoo.
