Even among the council of elders there is a hierarchy and at the top of it sits the Crone. She usually tends to the rituals and medicine, leaving the politics and war for the rest of the council, but she still holds the power to intervene or veto any of their decisions if she sees them as a possible threat. Only the medicine women that have taking the vows abjuring their ties with their clans can be considered for this position as the Crone is expected to act without any favoritism or self interest. In the rare cases in which a Crone is found guilty of acting against the good of the tribe or in a clear form of partiality she receives the harshest punishment possible, having all of her power stripped away, she is then blinded and her horn is sawed at the base before being cast off into exile.
